Gifts for 2,000+ children

Newington Baptist Church in Gloucester was a collection site for shoeboxes prepared in the Middle Peninsula for Operation Christmas Child. Lillian Cox, top photo at left, and Jerry Young were in charge of the operation, receiving more than 2,000 shoeboxes from area churches and individuals which they, and their crew, packed into 177 cartons. The cartons were then packed onto a trailer by Bob Holt, Doug Hull and Pastor Mike Gray, photo from left, and taken to Poquoson Baptist Church’s, Drop-off Center for transport to the Boone, North Carolina, Process and Distribution Center. The program is operated by Samaritan’s Purse and distributes boxes of toys and other items to children in need overseas.
