Gifts fill Kingston Parish House for Mathews Christmas Store

Kingston Parish House was bustling with activity on Thursday as volunteers arranged hundreds of toys and gift items on tables in preparation for the annual Mathews Christmas Store. 

Sponsored by Mathews Social Services, with generous contributions from local churches and community organizations and a grant from the Owens Foundation, the store gives parents in need an opportunity to “purchase” Christmas gifts for their children with vouchers in designated amounts. In addition, children are given the opportunity to visit the “Elf Shop” after the annual Christmas parade and choose gifts for their parents or guardians.

Thanks to donors such as the Mathews Lions Club, which donated 24 brand-new bicycles and a large number of toys; Kingston Parish, which filled 75 stockings; Central United Methodist Church, which decorated and filled shoeboxes, and Toys for Tots, which donated toys, volunteers were able to serve 347 adults and 208 children for a total of 553 pe...
