Gift ideas for a hostess

It’s that special time of the year for family gatherings, parties and special times when a hostess gift comes to mind.

A bottle of wine, although a very nice thought, is a rather impersonal thank-you, so how about making a gift of your own, something a little more personal? These personal homemade gifts are also the perfect thank you for friends such as the mail carrier, paper carrier, teacher, scout leader or neighbors.

What can they be? The Virginia Egg Council has provided some answers.

The concept is simple. Choose a favorite holiday baked-goods recipe. Select clear containers with secure lids. Fill with layers of dry ingredients, alternating different colors for a festive look. Apply a personal label. Tie colorful ribbons around lids or necks for holiday color. Attach a handwritten recipe card with a spatula or whisk tied on for the personal touch.
