GHS wrestling off to strong start

The Gloucester High School wrestling team started off its 2019-2020 season strong, beating Lafayette and Menchville in a tri-meet last Thursday and winning three-of-five matchups in Saturday’s Trojan Duals in New Kent.

The Dukes defeated Lafayette, 43-36, and toppled Menchville, 53-30. Then on Saturday, the Dukes defeated Denbigh (42-21), King William (63-12) and Varina (60-12) at the Trojan Duals.

Sophomore Ethan Baker and junior Austin Glockner—both returning state qualifiers, started the season with back-to-back victories by pin. They were not the only ones to double up in the win column, as GHS senior Ethan Parr also pinned both of his competitors.

Other Gloucester winners include junior Douglas Pruim, and first-year wrestlers Danny McTavish and Adam Eckstein. 

Josh Seaton, Ashton Flaherty and junior Douglas all recorded two wins.  Their efforts helped propel the Dukes over Lafayette and Menchville.
