GHS wrestlers dominate Menchville, Bruton, Kecoughtan

The Gloucester High School wresting team competed in its first home meet of the season on Wednesday, Dec. 4. The Dukes competed against Menchville, Bruton and Kecoughtan and won against all three teams with 24 pins and three tech falls.

Gloucester posted a 62-17 win over the Monarchs, defeated the Panthers, 70-12, and beat the Warriors, 66-12.
Posting wins over Menchville were Jackzel Quinones (106 lbs.), David Lewis (126 lbs.), Christian Hartz (132 lbs.), Micah Bodiford (138 lbs.), Rylan Altrath (144 lbs.), Corey Skay (150 lbs.), Karl Dean (165 lbs.), Kenneth Hamilton (190 lbs.) and Nelson Spikes (215 lbs.). Chase Adams (113 lbs.) accepted a forfeit win.

Wins over Bruton wrestlers were posted by Quinones, Adams, Oliver Ramos (120), Lewis, Hartz, Bodiford, Altrath, Skay, Dean, Anthony Nester (175), Hamilton and Spikes.

Winning their weight classes over Kecoughtan were Quinones Hartz, Bodiford (138), Altrath (144), Skay, Dean, Hamilton (190), and Spikes. Adams, Ramos and Lewis took forfeit wins.

HHH Holiday Classic

The GHS wresting team competed in the HHH Holiday Classic Friday and Saturday at Churchland High School. The Dukes took sixth place out of the 26 teams that competed.

JV wrestler Connor Maple won his weight class at 106 lbs. Runner-ups for their weight classes were varsity wrestlers Quinones and Hamilton. Placing third in their weight classes were Katherine McDuffie at 152 lbs. for the girls and varsity wrestler Dean. Adams placed fifth in his weight class at 126 lbs.

The GHS Dukes wrestled yesterday in an away match against Warwick and Woodside at Warwick High School and will compete again next Wednesday against Denbigh and Heritage at Denbigh High School.
