GHS wrestlers compete in tournaments, Va. Duals

The Gloucester High School wrestling team has had a busy couple of weeks, competing at the Mathews Invitational, the Deep Creek Women’s and JV Tournament, the Virginia Duals in Hampton and against Kecoughtan and Menchville at home.

Mathews Invitational

On Jan. 7, the varsity team traveled to Mathews High School, taking third place in the Mathews Invitational.

Placing at the top of the podium for the Dukes were Aiden Sheesley (106 lbs.) and Ty Baker (126 lbs.). Sheesley and Baker both finished the day with 3-0 records. Sheesley won two matches by fall and Baker pinned his way through all of his competitions. Corey Skay (132 lbs.) secured a 2-1 record with one fall. Skay’s efforts put him in second place.

Makai Scatliff (190 lbs.) and Joey Foley (215 lbs.) claimed third place in their brackets. Each lost early in the championship round but fought through the consolation bracket. Scatliff went 3-1 on the day and Foley finished 4-1.Just missing the podium were Christian Hartz ...
