GHS wrestlers beat Phoebus, Bethel; place 6th at Ram Rumble

The Gloucester High School wrestling team held its last home meet of the season on Wednesday, Jan. 15 in the GHS gymnasium. The meet was also Senior Night for Jackzel Quinones, Aiden Sheesley, Christian Hartz and J.R. Jones.
The Dukes won over the Phoebus Phantoms by a score of 54-18 and the Bethel Bruins, 59-24.

Multiple athletes won their respective weight classes in the contest against Phoebus. Among those winning their weight classes were Quinones (106 lbs.), David Lewis (120 lbs.), Sheesley (126 lbs.), Micah Bodiford (138 lbs.), Corey Skay (157 lbs.), Karl Dean (165 lbs.) and Kenneth Hamilton (175 lbs.). Winning by forfeit were Connor Maples (113 lbs.), Hartz (132 lbs.) and Rylan Altrath (144 lbs.). Charlotte Kirby (150 lbs.) also competed in their respective weight class.
The Dukes would then face the Bruins. Winning their respective classes over the Bruins were Quinones (106 lbs.), Lewis (120 lbs.), Hartz (132 lbs.), Altrath (144 lbs.), Skay (157 lbs.), Brandon McDonald (157 lbs.) and Hamilton (175 lbs.). Winning by forfeit were Sheesley (126 lbs.), Dean (165 lbs.) and Nelson Spikes (190 lbs.).

Lafayette Ram Rumble

The Gloucester Dukes competed in the Lafayette Ram Rumble on Friday, Jan. 17, through Saturday, Jan. 18, at Lafayette High School in Williamsburg. The Dukes placed sixth overall out of 32 teams.

Top finishers in their weight classes were Sheesley (126 lbs.) who placed second, Lewis (120 lbs.) who also placed second, Hartz who placed third (132 lbs.), Hamilton (175 lbs.) who also placed third, and Dean (165 lbs.) who placed fourth. Also competing in the meet were Quinones, Bodiford and Altrath.

The Dukes were scheduled to return to the mat on Wednesday in an away match against Hampton and Bethel in Hampton.
