GHS women’s senior four win state title

The Gloucester High School women’s senior four rowers, Casey Martin, Bailey Hamilton, Mackenzie Marbain and Ashley Dough, with coxswain Autumn Rose, capped an undefeated season by winning the state title in the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association Championships May 14 at Occoquan.

The senior four was first in its heat with a time of 5:44.3 and won the final in 6:00.4. This championship win sends the girls to the Scholastic Rowing Association of American Championships Friday and Saturday in Zanesville, Ohio.

Also in the state championships, the GHS lightweight double of Mitchell Moore and Joe Lineberry achieved a third-place finish in their final to win bronze medals in 6:12.3.

Heidi Cooper was fourth for GHS in her varsity singles heat and did not advance. Also, the men’s varsity double was second in its heat but did not compete in the final. The Gloucester rowers headed to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, for the prestigious Stotesbury Cup Regatta last Friday and Saturday....
