GHS women’s four wins at Occoquan

Gloucester High School varsity rowers competed in the Darrell Winslow Regatta at Occoquan on Saturday and came away with a win and a second-place finish. 

The GHS women’s first four of Casey Martin, Bailey Hamilton, Mackenzie Marbain, Ashleigh Dough and coxswain Autumn Rose placed first in their heat in 6:10.3. They went on to win the final in 5:57.9, two seconds ahead of the second-place boat. 

Heidi Cooper placed third in her singles heat in 7:28.7 and was fifth in the final. GHS also entered a women’s junior four that placed sixth in its heat. John Cooper and Chase Holland competed in the men’s varsity double and were first in their heat in 5:52.3. In a close finals race, the pair placed second in 5:53.7.

Racing in the senior four, three Gloucester sophomores and a senior placed fourth in their heat but did not advance. Mitchell Moore and James Raha were also fourth in their doubles heat.  

The GHS crew will compete on Saturday in Mathews....
