GHS wins district field hockey title

Gloucester High School field hockey players added the Peninsula District Tournament title to their regular season championship last week with a 2-1 win over Denbigh at Christopher Newport University.

That marked the last win of the season for the Lady Dukes, who were undefeated in Peninsula District competition. The Gloucester girls and the Lady Patriots advanced to the Group AAA Eastern Region Tournament, but both PD teams lost to Virginia Beach squads on Tuesday. Gloucester fell, 7-1, to Cox, while Denbigh was dominated by First Colonial, 9-0.

Following the district tournament, several Gloucester players received Peninsula All-District honors. Named to the first team were attacker Hannah Joyce and defender Amythyst Macy. Named to the second team were attacker Kayla Sadler, midfielder Morgan Reed and goalie Susan Ortiz. Breanna Fox received an honorable mention.
