GHS wind ensemble, band earn ‘Superior’ ratings

The Gloucester High School band program has again received top honors at the annual District VIII Band Festival. The GHS wind ensemble and the symphonic band each received the top rating of "Superior" at the District Festival held last Thursday through Saturday at Jamestown High School.

At the festival, the symphonic band played three pieces from Grade IV literature and the wind ensemble presented three pieces in the Grade V category. Both groups also received ratings of "Superior" in sight reading.

Gloucester High School bands have received 32 "Superior" ratings since 1989 when the GHS band first achieved the Virginia Honor Band designation.
