Four Gloucester High School students were the top winners in the Career and Workplace Skills Readiness Video Contest sponsored by the Virginia Council for Workforce Development and ECPI College of Technology.
Senior Sammy Mills and junior Sierra Cullen took first place with their video titled "6 Minutes" and won a $1,250 cash prize. Juniors Jay Purrington and Cole Pearson combined talents to take second place with their video, "Recipe for Success," earning a $750 prize. All four are students of video production instructor Jeff Leone.
In the contest, students were asked to develop a video that would increase awareness and educate young people on the workplace readiness skills that employers are seeking to hire for high-demand careers, such as health care, hospitality, construction and advanced technologies, on the Peninsula.
The contest was open to students in Gloucester, Hampton, James City, Newport News, Poquoson, Williamsburg and York.
