The Gloucester High School track team had its first meet of the season last Wednesday, May 5 at home. Gloucester competed against Menchville, Bethel, Kecoughtan, Heritage, Woodside, Denbigh, Phoebus and Hampton.
Mya Baker took first place in the girls’ 1,600m run with a time of 6:03.42. Following Baker was Nicole Pinder in second place with a time of 6:08.41. Next for Gloucester was Emily Shipe in third place (6:58.69) and Lilly Bane coming in fourth (7:15.11).
In the girls’ 200m dash, Dakota Dunlap ran a 31.55 and Taylor Hawkey ran a 32.02. Also competing in the race were JV runners Kaylee Hall (31.66), Reese Miller (32.30), Tai Sewell (32.58) and Abigail Junker (34.30).
Abby Brown completed the girls’ 400m dash with a time of 1:25.47. Gloucester JV team members Sewell (1:13), Kendall Lands (1:16.84) and Des Gamble-Coleman (1:23.31) also participated in the race.
Elli Timado took second place in the girls’ 800m run with a time of 3:02.09. Following Timado was Kiley Parker, taking third place with a time of 3:12.52. Next for Gloucester was Hannah Rippel in sixth place (3:26.75) and JV runner Madilyn Kadel (2:57.80).
Layla Angles took third place in the girls’ 3200m run with a time of 15:39.26.
Gloucester came in third for the girls’ 4x400m relay with a time of 4:47.01. Baker, Cody Brown, Pinder and Shipe competed in the relay.
Gloucester came in first for the girls’ 4x800m relay with a time of 11:35.11. Pinder, Shipe, Brown and Baker competed in the relay. Gloucester JV runners Hall, Junker, Kendall Lands and Miller competed against the varsity team and completed the relay in 11:46.14.
GHS boys
Alec Daniel of the Gloucester boys’ track team came in first place in the 1,600m run with a time of 4:52.91. Conner O’Beirne finished fourth with a time of 5:02.50.
Tanner Baker finished first in the 3200m run with a time of 10:39.80. Owen Hogge finished fifth with a time of 12:27.18.
Saige Miller ran the 100m dash in 13.55 and Peyton Cherkauer finished the race at 13.73. Miller ran a 25.96 in the 200m dash and Pace Peterson ran a 26.96.
In the 400m dash, Tyler Hicks ran a 57.26, followed by Miller who ran a 57.47. Next for Gloucester were Leo Berry (1:00.29), Devin Lowney (1:08.20) and Ethan Pincince (1:09.90).
Clayton Miller came in fifth and ran a 2:21.07 in the 800m run. Ian Waters and Brandon Carucci also competed in the race and finished at 2:25.62 and 2:43.93, respectively.
Gloucester came in third for the 4x400m relay with a time of 4:05.30. Competitors in the relay were Hicks, Clayton Miller, Leo Berry and Daniel. JV track runners also competed and finished in 4:39.10. Joshua Pinder, Joel Taylor, Michael Ray and Matthew Slater also ran.
Gloucester placed first in the 4x800m relay with a time of 9:03.49. Baker, Daniel, O’Beirne and Hicks were on the winning team.
Cherkauer had a score of 27-11.50 for the boys’ shot put.
