GHS track athletes set two school records

The Gloucester High School indoor track and field team set two new school records in the fifth annual GHS Pre-Holiday Invitational held Friday and Saturday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton. 

Joshua Shackelford set a new GHS record in the 100-meter run with a winning time of 2:38.12. The mark qualified him for the regional meet and led to his selection as one of 59 Milestat Athletes of the Meet.

Martaine Morris, Joseph Conroy, Aaron Shipe and Shackelford won the boys’ sprint medley and set a new school record in 3:46.24, falling just short of qualifying for the indoor national meet. Also, Shipe was seventh in the 1,000-meter race.

The middle school boys’ 3,200-meter relay team of Joshua Ipock, Conner O’Beirne, Alec Daniel and Zack Foley placed first with a time of 10:55.67. Also, Sebastian Foster was fifth in the 55-meter dash in 8.06.

Seventh grader Tanner Baker won the middle school boys’ mile race in 5:16.81. Devon Pearce was second in 5:27.3...
