GHS track athletes place at state, advance to nationals

Gloucester High School indoor track athletes Jazmine Banks and Evan Wagner will continue their post-seasons at the national championships in New York after placing in the VHSL Group AAA Track Meet last weekend. Banks placed third in the shot put with a 40-foot throw at the state meet and Wagner was 11th in the high jump with a leap of 5’3".

Team member Kevin Speray also competed at the state event and was 21st in the mile. Speray was sixth in the mile at the Eastern Region Meet where he set a personal record time of 4:36. Banks was second in her event at the regional and Wagner was third in the high jump. Also at the regional, Elisabeth Drake set a new personal record in the mile with a time of 5:44 for 10th place.
GHS advanced 10 athletes to the regional competition during the Peninsula District Indoor Meet on Feb. 8 in Hampton. At that event, Drake won the mile and was second in the two-mile run, Banks won the shot put, Wagner won the high jump and Robert Freiermuth ...
