The Gloucester High School indoor track teams recently competed in a pair of district meets. The Dukes competed in Peninsula District Meet #3 on Wednesday, Jan. 15 and the Peninsula District Meet #2 that was rescheduled to Monday, Jan. 20 at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
Peninsula District Meet #3
Several Gloucester athletes earned season bests at the Jan. 15 meet.
In the girls’ 55-meter dash, Deziray Bellinger ran a season best of 7.74 to place eighth; Ellary Miller ran a season best of 8.39 to place 29th and Alexis Dishman ran a season best of 8.92 to place 35th. Also competing in the 55-meter dash were Jenna Seaton who placed 27th with a time of 8.35, Amari Hunt who ran a time of 8.40 to place 30th and Cadence Mooney who ran a 9.98 to place 37th.
In the girls’ 300-meter dash, Shyanne Carlton ran a season best of 47.57 to place 13th and Payten Bebco ran a 49.28 to place 17th. Others who competed in 300-meter dash were Emma Hogge who finished in 50.54 to place 23rd; Aubrey Milawski who ran a 53.88 to place 32nd and Tessa Carteret who ran a 5.44 to place 34th.
Scoring season bests in the girls’ 500-meter dash were Ava Hutton who placed ninth with a 1:35.59; Lilli Watts who placed 23rd with a time of 1:52.05; Madlen Thorson who placed 25th with a time of 2:01.23 and Alexandra Byser placed 26th with a time of 2:17.26.
In the girls’ 1,000-meter run, running season bests were Mary VanFossen who placed second with a time of 3:39.44 and Hannah Broadwell placed sixth with a time of 4:04.02. Also running in the event were Danielle Burgess who placed ninth with a time of 4:12.33 and Rylie Jeffery who placed 11th with a time of 4:21.48.
In the girls’ 1600-meter run, running season bests were Mackenzie Alcorn who placed third with a time of 6:50.10; Sarah Bullins placed fifth with a time of 6:58.18, and Chloe Sylvester placed sixth with a time of 6:58.87. Zoe Scott also competed in the 1,600-meter run, placing seventh with a time of 6:59.43.
The girls’ 4×800-meter relay placed first with a time of 11:28.68.
The boys’ team also had a good number of athletes with season bests.
In the 55-meter dash, earning season bests were Tyler Hawkey who placed 44th with a time of 7.55 and Trevion Callicutt who placed 48th with a time of 7.96. Also running in the 55-meter dash were Xavier Johnson who placed 18th with a time of 6.95; Jason Hancock who placed 50th with a time of 8:07, and Bentley Hughes who placed 51st with a time of 8:47.
In the 300-meter dash, athletes with season bests were Gavyn Talbot who placed 12th with a time of 39.47, Grayson Shield who placed 13th with a time of 39.76, Alex Hammond who placed 25th with a time of 41.22 and Tyler Hawkey who placed 32nd with a time of 42.43.
In the boys’ 500-meter dash, earning season bests were Izak Smith who placed third with a time of 1:12.10, Brayl’n Johnson who placed 28th with a time of 1:23.45 and Sheperd Mooney who placed 32nd with a time of 1:32.47.
Running season bests in the 1,000-meter run were Erik Waters who placed sixth with a time of 3:04.58 and Brennon Sellers who placed 11th with a time of 3:19.96. Also running in the 1,000-meter run was Joel Taylor, who placed seventh with a time of 3:05.27.
Running in the boys’ 1,600-meter run were Ryker Jordan who placed 12th with a time of 6:23.54 and Lincoln Alcorn who placed 15th with a time of 6:33.13.
The boys’ 4×200- and 4×800-meter relay teams both had season bests. The 4×200 competitors placed sixth with a time of 1:37.83 and the GHS 4×800-meter relay placed seventh with a time of 10:05.59.
Season bests in the long jump included Brayl’n Johnson who placed 11th with a jump of 17-3 and Alex Hammond who placed 12th with a jump of 16-9. Xavier Johnson earned a season best in the boys’ triple jump with a jump of 40-6 to place fourth overall.
In the shot put, earning season bests were Austin Halterman who placed sixth with a throw of 37-3; Colby Morris placed 18th with a throw of 31-4, and Ethan Stotts, who placed 25th with a throw of 28-3. Trevor Burke placed 14th in the shot put with a throw of 34-6.
Peninsula District Meet #2
The GHS athletes also recorded a lot of season bests in the other district meet on Jan. 20.
In the girls’ 55-meter dash, earning seasons bests were Avery Herrin who placed 26th with a time of 8.84 and Tessa Carteret who placed 30th with a time of 8.95. Also running in the 55-meter dash were Aubrey Milawski who placed 29th with a time of 8.94 and Isabella Brodsky who placed 35th with a time of 10.16.
In the 300-meter dash, season bests went to Amari Hunt who placed 25th with a time of 49.98 and Lilli Watts who placed 33rd with a time of 52.77. Ellary Miller also ran in the 300-meter dash, running a time of 49.15 to place 21st.
Kayla Turner earned a season best in the 500-meter dash with her time of 1:33.89 to place 13th.
Earning season bests in the girls’ 1,000-meter run were Mary VanFossen, who placed third with time of 3:36.05; Rachel Blittle who placed fourth with a time of 3:40.31; Zoe Scott who placed seventh with a time of 3:53.74 and Chloe Sylvester who placed eighth with a time of 3:56.61.
Earning season bests in the 1,600-meter run were Hannah Symonds who placed third with a time of 7:00.19, Peyton Price who placed fourth with a time of 7:05.12 and Danielle Burgess who placed fifth with a time of 7:08.70.
The 4×800-meter relay team came in third, running a time of 11:48.06.
In the shot put, Peyton Timmons placed fifth with a throw of 27-3 and Brianna Peet placed 13th with a throw of 20-8.
In the boys’ 55-meter dash, earning season bests were Brayl’n Johnson who placed 33rd with a time of 7.35; Alex Hammond who placed 38th with a time of 7.57 and Michael Seda who placed 40th with a time of 7.59. Also running in the 55-meter dash was Steven Byrd who placed third with a time of 6.75 and Grayson Shield who placed 19th with a time of 7.14.
Earning season bests in the boys’ 500-meter dash were Kimball Starcher who placed 12th with a time of 1:17.10, Gavyn Talbot who placed 16th with a time of 1:19.73 and Jacob Stump who placed 25th with a time of 1:22.47.
Earning season bests in the boys’ 1,000-meter run were Brennon Sellers who placed sixth with a time of 3:09.09 and Alvaro Dodier Fernandez who placed 11th with a time of 3:24.85.
Earning season bests in the boys’ 1600-meter dash were Erik Waters who placed third with a time of 5:12.01 and Logan McAllister who placed eighth with a time of 6:11.53.
Maliq Johnson placed seventh in the boys’ 55-meter hurdles with a time of 9:85. The boys’ 4×200- meter relay earned a season best with a time of 1:36.71 to place fifth.
In the boys’ long jump, Alex Hammond jumped a 17-10 to place 10th and Brayl’n Johnson jumped a 17-9 to place 13th. In the triple jump, Xavier Johnson jumped a 40-9 to place third in the event. In the shot put, Austin Halterman placed sixth with a throw of 39-3, Jaden Elliot placed 17th with a throw of 32-6 and Jaylen Dale placed 23rd with a throw of 28-3.
The Dukes were set to compete in another district meet yesterday at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton.
