GHS track and field athletes qualify for state meet

Gloucester High School indoor track and field team members were back in action Friday and Saturday at the St. Christopher Invitational in Richmond. 

GHS junior Joshua Shackelford was second in the 3,200 meter race on Friday with a time of 9:45.43. This qualified him for the state meet and made him a Milestat Elite Athlete. Sophomore Ainsley Miller was sixth in the pole vault, clearing 8’6”.

On Saturday, Makala White was 41st in the 1,000 meter race in 3:36.54 and Alyssa Lass was 25th in the 1,600 meter race in 5:42.64. Shackelford ran the 1,600 event and was 10th overall in 4:31.94, also qualifying for the state meet. In the annual Pat Covas Memorial Invitational at the Boo Williams Sportsplex in Hampton on Monday, the 3,200 relay team of Lass, Cara O’Beirne, White and Katherine Saunders had a time of 10:45.19 for second place. Lass was also second overall in the 1,000 with a time of 3:19.92.
