GHS track: 39 personal bests

Gloucester High School track and field athletes set 39 new personal records at the Norfolk Academy meet last week. The junior varsity boys finished first overall with 104 points. Top contenders included freshman John Pryor Jr. and eighth grader Ruby Williams.

For the junior varsity girls, Williams won the 400 meter race in 1:07.75 and was second in the 100 and the 200 with times of 14.35 and 29.6, respectively. Chynna Penird won the shot put with a throw of 23’06” and Williams was second in the long jump with a leap of 11’08”.

The JV girls placed fourth among eight teams. Cassie Evans also competed for Gloucester.

For the JV boys, Pryor won the 100 in 12.35 and was second in the 200 in 25.35. Joshua Shackelford was second in the 1600 in 5:25.36 and Andrew Wible was fourth in 5:44.73. Noah Bondurant was fourth in the 400 in 59.12. Bondurant, Ryan Petty, Cameron Walker and Shackelford combined to win the 1600 relay in 4:04.15.
