GHS swimmers set four school records at district meet

Gloucester High School swimmers set four school records and advanced team members to four Eastern Region Swim Meet events during the Peninsula District Meet held Saturday at Midtown Aquatic Facility in Newport News.

In individual events, Dreux Elliott II finished eighth out of 21 competitors in the 100 meter backstroke to set a new GHS record time of 1:04.22 and earn a bid to the regional event. Matt Heimburger set a new GHS record in the 100 meter freestyle to take sixth place in a field of 30 and earn a regional bid.

Ethan Oberndorfer had the top individual PD meet finish for the Dukes, finishing the 500 meter freestyle in 5:38.79 for fifth place among 21 swimmers and a regional bid. The 400 freestyle relay team of Elliott, Oberndorfer, Heimburger and newcomer David Collins were less than 1.5 seconds away from breaking the GHS record but settled for fourth place and a regional bid.
