GHS swimmers kick off season

Gloucester High School swimmers got the 2016 season underway on Monday with good results under new coach Steve Patton. The GHS boys fell to a strong Kecoughtan team, 67-27, but dominated Warwick, 72-18.

The Gloucester girls also bowed to Kecoughtan, 71-23, but tied up with Warwick, 47-47, in the meet, which was held at the Holland Pool at Hampton University.

In results for the Gloucester boys, the 200 free relay team of Jacob Raines, Aleck Earwood, Jason Degraw and Ethan Schacht, beat both Warwick and Kecoughtan and set a new school record with a time of 1.43.86. Earwood also beat Warwick and Kecoughtan in the 50 yard free with a time of 22.89.

Boys placing first against Warwick included the 200 medley relay team of Degraw, Will Greene, Raines and Schacht in 2:04.11. Earwood also took first over Warwick in the 200 yard free in 2.25.84.
