GHS swimmers, boys and girls, dominate Crabbers

The Gloucester High School swim team commanded the Holland Pool at Hampton University on Jan. 18, with the boys winning, 73-21, over their opponents from Hampton High School and the girls winning, 73-19, over the Crabbers.

“What impressed me the most was that our side of the pool was packed with family and friends. No one broke any records but it was a wonderful team effort,” said GHS coach Steve Patton. 

Leaving with four wins on the night, including two individual firsts and two relay team victories, were Hattie Yeager, Jax Knott, Livvie Cohn, Ethan Schacht, Hunter Lempka and Jason Degraw. 

Winning their races were the boys’ 200 medley relay team of Degraw, Hunter Emanus, Schacht and Aleck Earwood in 2.04.08 and the girls’ 200 medley team of Yeager, Cohn, Knott and Jessica Lawson in 2.17.51.

Hunter Lempka won the 200-yard freestyle in 2.30.54 and Layne Sabo did the same for the girls in 2.46.43. Schacht took the 200-yard individual medley in 2.21...
