GHS students to perform Sondheim musical

“Into the Woods,” the Tony Award-winning musical by Stephen Sondheim, will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 6 and 7, by the drama department at Gloucester High School.

The show, with a cast of nearly two dozen, is a magical, imaginative adventure about a childless baker and his wife who are cursed by a witch and go off into the woods in hopes of removing her evil spell, said a press release.

Directed by Clint Alexander, with music direction by Kristina Watkins, “Into the Woods” has a moral and political point of view, said the release, and it leads the audience on a journey to the darker side of fairy tales as they explore the pain of growing up, communal responsibility, and the values we pass on to our children.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students and will be available at the door or by emailing calexander@gc.k12.va.us.
