GHS softball off to 3-0 start

The Gloucester High School varsity softball team is off to a 3-0 start with wins over Denbigh, Indian River and Woodside. 

The Dukes dominated Denbigh, 35-1, on Tuesday at GHS. Morgan Haywood drove in 10 runs on three doubles and a single, Alyssa Shackelford had two hits, including a home run, and Macy Robbins added two hits. 

Haywood pitched two innings, striking out five, and Kirsten Green pitched one and two-thirds innings, striking out three. Kayla Tobin closed the game, striking out two over one and one-third innings.

Gloucester traveled to Indian River on Saturday morning and came away with a 16-0 win. Haywood had three hits, including a triple, three RBIs and struck out nine.  Jessica Hogge contributed two hits to go along with a long solo home run over the left field fence in the fourth inning. Kaleigh Arnett added two hits and three RBIs while Bridgett Motley had three RBIs with her second-inning home run.
