GHS softball in semis

The Gloucester High School varsity girls beat Hampton, 17-7, Tuesday in the quarterfinals of the Conference 10 Softball Tournament at the Stoney Run Athletic Complex in Newport News.

The second-seeded Dukes are scheduled to face third-seeded Warwick in the semifinals at 7 o’clock this evening at Stoney Run.

Against Hampton, the Dukes (18-2) scored 13 runs on 12 hits in the second inning. Morgan Haywood and Alyssa Shackelford combined for seven RBIs while Kirsten Green and Kaleigh Arnett had two RBIs each.

Macy Robbins, Jessica Hogge, Tori Brown and Haywood had two hits apiece. Haywood, Green and Kayla Tobin all pitched in the win. 

Gloucester secured the second seed with a 10-4 win at Warwick on Friday. Haywood (14-2) scattered nine hits, walked one and struck out 12. The Raiders loaded the bases in the bottom of the first inning but came away empty-handed as Haywood struck out the number three, four and five hitters to end the threat.
