GHS softball improves record to 17-0

Gloucester High School softball players ran their record to 17-0 and 5-0 in Conference 10 standings with an 11-1 win over Hampton last Thursday. The Lady Dukes broke open a 1-1 ball game when they scored nine runs on 10 hits in the third inning.

Morgan Haywood had three hits, including a triple, and three RBIs for the Dukes. Shelby Alto collected two hits, including a third-inning, three-run home run.

Tori Brown had two RBIs for Gloucester and Kaleigh Arnett had the remaining RBI as all nine starters either had a hit or scored a run. Macy Robbins and Jessica Hogge each had a double for the Dukes.

Haywood pitched a complete game, giving up one run on two hits while striking out 11. Gloucester was scheduled to host Great Bridge yesterday and Hampton today before beginning the conference tournament next week. ...
