GHS softball gets 2-0 start

Gloucester High School varsity softball players are off to a 2-0 start with wins over Denbigh and Woodside. 

The Dukes swept Denbigh, 21-0, on the road Tuesday as Kirsten Greene and Kayla Tobin combined for a no-hitter. The pair combined to get 10 of 15 outs on strikeouts.

Emma West had two hits, including a bases-clearing double, and five RBIs. Bridget Motley contributed two hits and four RBIs. Courtney Hall and Malaika Rilee added two hits each in the victory. 

After a March 14 match up with Kecoughtan was cancelled due to weather, Gloucester opened the season Friday with an 11-8 win at Woodside. The Dukes outslugged the Wolverines and put nine early runs on the board.

Gloucester scored four runs on four hits in the first inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Jessica Hogge and two RBIs on a single from Hall.
