GHS softball falls to Kecoughtan, 6-3

The Gloucester High School varsity softball team ended its season Monday with a 6-3 loss to the Kecoughtan Warriors in the first round of the Class 5 Region A tournament.

Gloucester (17-4) trailed, 2-0, after the top of the first inning and trailed virtually the entire game.

Gloucester momentarily tied the game at 2-2 in the third inning as Jessica Hogge singled and Bridget Motley followed with a two-run home run. However, Kecoughtan scored three runs in the fourth inning, all with two outs, to take a 5-2 lead.

The Warriors would later tack on a sixth run in the top of the seventh inning. In the bottom half of the final frame, the Dukes continued to show signs of life, as Emma West walked, Hogge singled, and Motley singled in pinch runner Makenna Keyes to cut the lead to 6-3. Gloucester brought the tying run to the plate twice but could not inch any closer.
