GHS sends 2 to state meet

Gloucester High School track and field athletes Mia Robinson and Justin Garcia, both juniors, will advance to the Group 5A State Meet that will be held Friday and Saturday at Todd Stadium.

Gloucester sent more athletes to the 5A South Regional last Friday and Saturday than it had for several years but fell short of sending more to the state meet.

After a lengthy lightning delay Friday, senior Jordan Haas took eighth place in the shot put with a throw of 125’10”, just two slots short of a state bid. Sophomore Antonio Morales was 12th in the long jump with 19’7” before more lightning moved other events to Saturday.

On Saturday, Robinson was sixth in the pole vault by clearing nine feet. She had also qualified for the state meet earlier in the season.

Junior Lauren Hill took 19th place in the 800 meter race with a personal record time of 2:31.79. Junior Jasmin Scott ran the 400 meter in 1:01.74 for 10th place and the 200 meter in 27.41 for 25th. Senior Malia Wa...
