GHS runners sweep

The Gloucester High School cross country team swept its first home meet on Sept. 28 at Beaverdam Park, beating both Heritage and Phoebus. This meet allowed some of the younger Dukes to compete. 

The Gloucester girls had a perfect score with a sweep of the top five places. Junior Gibson Hylton led the way in 24:39, followed by Lydia Hart in 24:43, Laura Tobin in 25:34, Macey Calder with a new personal best time of 26:40 and Gabby Hansen in fifth place in 26:52. 

The Gloucester boys posted 22 points to best Phoebus with 46 and Heritage with 64. Freshman Austin Ezzell finished first for the Dukes in 21:03, followed by Donald Calder in 21:25, Amadeus Rivera in 21:57, Luke Waters in 22:26 and Mikey Toms in 23:17. 

Eighth grader Jake Ronan was third overall GHS runner to finish with a time of 21:24 and Alec Daniel was eighth overall in 22:36. Their times did not count in score calculations.  Gloucester was scheduled to race last Saturday in the OctoberFest in The Plain...
