GHS runners stand out at Maymont Invitational

A rain-hampered schedule has left the Gloucester High School harriers with only one Peninsula District meet and an invitational to date, but the Dukes had successful outings at both events.

The GHS junior varsity girls stunned a loaded field by taking second place at the highly competitive Maymont Invitational in Richmond on Saturday. The Lady Dukes finished just 14 points behind first-place Western Albemarle, paced by a second-place overall performance from freshman Anna Robins. Robins finished the 5K race just seconds behind the leader.

Robins was followed by eighth grader Madison Hogge, Carrie Adams, Megan Hogge, Ashley Purrington, Olivia Cross, Leah Procopi, Alex Londonberg, Tess Robins, Emily Olson, Emily Davis and Caitlyn Parr.
The varsity boys finished fourth out of 15 teams, led by senior Kevin Speray at 13th overall in 17:38. He was followed by Logan Pitchford, Tyler Price, Cameron Cross, Blake Waters and Dylan Wyco. The Gloucester jayvee boys were 10th overall thanks ...
