GHS runners place second, third in Conference 10 meet

The girls placed second and the boys placed third for Gloucester High School in the 2015 Conference 10 Cross Country Meet last Thursday at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.

With their performances, both the GHS boys and girls advance to the 5A South Regional Meet, which was scheduled for yesterday at Bells Mill. The top six teams in the region move on to the state meet, along with the top 10 individuals not on the state qualifying teams.

In the girls’ conference race, GHS sophomore Megan McGee was first for the Dukes and third overall in 21:03.61. Senior Mia Robinson was next for GHS and eighth overall in 21:56.32. Both McGee and Robinson earned All-Conference honors.

Robinson was followed by freshman Chasity Lass at 11th overall in 22:13.74, senior Lauren Hill at 13th in 22:35.91, sophomore Alissa Adickes at 14th in 22:39.07, sophomore Gibson Hylton at 16th in 22:43.32 and freshman Brooke Cheatham at 18th in 23:15.57.

The Menchville girls won the meet with 25 points, followed by Gloucester with 49 and Nansemond River with 83. Menchville runners placed first, second and fourth in the race individually.

In the boys’ race, GHS freshman Aaron Shipe was first for the Dukes and fifth overall in 17:58.89. He was followed by freshman Joshua Shackelford at 10th in 18:21.77. Both Shipe and Shackelford earned All-Conference honors.

Shackelford was followed by senior David Sadikov at 12th in 18:42.92, senior Chase Holland at 18th in 19:09.9, junior Michael Chaffin at 24th in 19:32.04, sophomore Derek Drummond at 26th in 19:34.52 and sophomore Andrew Wible at 28th in 19:52.41.

The Menchville boys swept the top three places in the race and won the conference title with 23 points. Kecoughtan followed with 65 points and Gloucester was third with 67.
