GHS runners compete in D.C., home meets, aim for state meet

Gloucester High School’s cross country teams competed in various different terrains over the course of a few weeks. Rain, mud and shine, the Dukes stepped up to show everyone what they can do.

On Saturday, Sept. 29, Gloucester traveled to Kenilworth Park in Washington, D.C,. for a rather exciting race. Due to rain, this course was all mud, but these conditions didn’t stop the Dukes from getting dirty and winning. Many of them stepped up and ran their best times setting personal records.

For the boys, Josh Shackelford (16:52), Tanner Baker (17:50), Conner O’Beirne (18:14), Mike Toms (18:55), Justin Burgess (19:03), Josh Ipock (19:13) and Luke Waters (19:18) ran a race with smart strategies from all of them. Donald Calder was also competitive, running a strong 20:06.
