GHS rowers win eight races at Mathews regatta

The Gloucester High School crew returned from Mathews on Saturday with plenty of medals from the Tidewater Regatta. The Dukes won eight races, placed second in five events and were third in four events.

In the varsity races, the women’s eight of Elizabeth Keane, Gabrielle Lauer, Elaina Arsenovic, Kendall Worland, Brianna Priode, Hannah Beverage, Mikaela Extine, Hannah Cagle and coxswain Matthew Hendrix won their race in 5:13.7.

Lauer, Keane, Worland, Priode and Hendrix combined for second place in 4:36.1 in the first four event while Priode, Beverage, Extine, Cagle and coxswain Caitlyn Thompson won the second four race. Lauer, Worland, Priode and Keane teamed for a third-place finish in the quad in 3:58.8 and Keane rowed solo for third place with a time of 4:52.8 in the single.

On the men’s side, Logan Hutson, Joel Kidd, Jeremy Frush, Jacob Cheatham, Chris Smith, Adam Hedrick, James Lane, Gil Owens and coxswain Hendrix were second in the eight with a time of 4:06.2....
