GHS rowers place fourth in rowing nationals

Gloucester High School rowers Casey Martin, Bailey Hamilton, Mackenzie Marbain and Ashleigh Dough, with coxswain Autumn Rose, took fourth place in the women’s senior four at the Scholastic Rowing Association of America Nationals in Nashport, Ohio, on Saturday.
The women’s senior four event had a starting field of 27 of the fastest boats in the nation. The Gloucester girls got off to a good start by winning their first heat Friday in 5:48.7.
On Saturday, they were third in the semifinals in 5:45.9 and moved on to the finals again rowing in 5:45.9 for fourth place. 
The fourth-place showing in the nationals capped a great year for the GHS senior four, which was undefeated during the regular regatta season and won the Virginia Rowing Association championship. The girls were fifth in the national Stotesbury Cup. 
Martin, Dough and Rose will return to the GHS crew next season while Hamilton is off to Shenandoah College this fall and Marbain is headed to the University ...
