GHS rowers excel at Mathews regatta

The Gloucester High School crew spent spring break cleaning up their new practice site in Naxera on the Severn River before heading to Williams Wharf for a regatta. The GHS rowers had a great outing Saturday, with eight wins and eight second-place finishes in the Mathews event.

Among the first-place finishers were the women’s varsity four, the women’s second four and the men’s varsity eight. The women’s varsity eight won by over 16 seconds, the men’s double won by over 11 seconds, and the women’s quad and novice four each won by 10-second margins. The men’s novice four had a 15-second edge over its closest competitor.

 

Placing second were two men’s varsity fours, a novice mixed four, a women’s varsity four, a men’s second four, a novice mixed eight, a women’s double and a men’s quad. The rowers head to Occoquan Saturday for the Darrell Winslow Regatta.
