GHS rowers compete in Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints

Twenty-two Gloucester High School crew members joined almost 2,000 competitors in the Mid-Atlantic Erg Sprints on Feb. 4 in Alexandria.

Among the Gloucester standouts, first-time competitors Madison Hutson, Kara Smith, Kassidy Brown and Gillian Retikis had strong performances in the 1000 meter race for 13-year olds. Hutson won the event with a time of 3:44.1, Smith was third at 4:09, Brown was sixth in 4:21.3 and Retikis was seventh in 4:24.9. Another newcomer, seventh grader Casey Martin, was second in the age 12-and-under 500 meter sprint with a time of 2:10.1.
In other notable results, Elizabeth Keane was fifth out of 51 rowers in the 2000 meter event for 17-19 year-olds in 7:51.2 and Hannah Beverage was 15th in her 1500 meter event. In the 1500 for 16-year-old boys, Jacob Cheatham and Logan Hutson finished 11th and 13th, respectively.

Jeremy Frush placed 19th out of 90 rowers in the lightweight 1500 meter event with a time of 5:28.5 and Chris Smith was 25th in 5:32.1. On th...
