GHS rower Holland wins state single title

Gloucester High School sophomore Chase Holland won the men’s senior single championship during the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Association Championships Saturday at Occoquan. Holland had a time of 6:52.5.

The senior quad of Taylor Dough, Russell Simpson, Aaron Parr and Zack Moore took second place in the championships, as did the varsity double pair of sophomores Bailey Hamilton and Maddie Lee, who raced against high school seniors. 

The lightweight four of Casey Martin, Mackenzie Marbain, Maddy Hogge and Emily Freudenberg, with Ashleigh Dough as coxswain, took third place.  Novices John Cooper, Justin Poole, Jordan Dickey and David Sadikov, with coxswain Gage Holland, raced in the varsity junior four championships and came up just short with a fourth-place finish in their heat.

The junior four of Emma Malise, Rachel Witt, Ashleigh Dough and Emily Poole, with coxswain Amber Stieber, were also fourth in their heat and did not advance to the finals.
