GHS relay runners qualify for state meet

Gloucester High School track runners Lauren Hill, Jasmin Scott, Ruby Williams and Mia Robinson combined for a time of 4:08.82 in the 1,600-meter relay at the annual Southern Track Classic in Richmond on Friday to qualify for the Group 5A State Track Meet.

GHS head coach John Perrin said he consulted with coaches Mike Carroll and Stan Hundley about changing the relay team’s order just prior to the meet, and it worked. The relay team improved on its previous time of 4:11.88 to set a new school record and place 14th overall.

Also at the Track Classic, Robinson cleared 9’9” for ninth place in the pole vault, Justin Garcia ran the 400 meter in 51.17 for sixth place and Brady Barefoot was 14th in the long jump with 19’4”. All three are seniors.

During the last Peninsula meet of the season last Thursday, junior Vivian Pryor took second place and qualified for the state meet in the shot put with a throw of 35’4”. Scott took fifth place in the 200 in...
