GHS pole vaulter earns All-State honors

Gloucester High School pole vaulter Mia Robinson earned All-State honors Friday at the Group 5A Track and Field Championships at Todd Stadium.

Robinson was ranked seventh overall among the 11 female vaulters going into the championships. She fell short of matching her qualifying mark of 9’5”, only clearing nine feet, but based on missed attempts and the bar height, it was enough to finish seventh overall.

“I always tell my athletes what coach Vince Brown told his at Christopher Newport University. ‘Do what you did to get there,’” said GHS coach John Perrin.

On Saturday, Justin Garcia represented GHS in the 400-meter dash but his 52-second run was just short of his season best and not good enough to place. Johnson and Garcia are rising seniors and will have another year of competition.

Perrin also noted that cross country conditioning has started for those who plan to race in the fall season. Athletes must have physical forms dated May 1 or later ...
