GHS, Page, Peasley students cited in science fair

Six students from Gloucester County public schools were recognized for their research during the 2014 Tidewater Science and Engineering Fair held March 15 at Old Dominion University.

The winners included Gloucester High School students Jacob Haugdahl, Vivian Austin, Mitchell Haraburda and Cethlynn Weatherly. Haugdahl took second place in Engineering: Materials and Bioengineering as well as the ASM award for manufacturability for his project, “The effect of type of material on different slide position.”

Haraburda was awarded $150 by the U.S. military for his project, “Different materials’ effect on bullet impact reduction.” Weatherly took third place in Plant Sciences for her project, “The effect of ph down teabags on an underwater plant environment.” Austin received an honorable mention in Environmental Science.
