GHS netters open with win

The Gloucester High School girls’ tennis team opened the season with a 5-4 win over Bruton on the GHS courts Tuesday. GHS top-seed Christine Riddett got things going for the Lady Dukes with an 8-0 sweep over Nicole James and number-two player Olivia Edwards defeated Sarah Reinagel, 8-3.

Forrest Eversole posted another GHS win at number four with a 9-7 victory over Amber Boden-Lopes and Alanna McCue-Gomes at number six defeated Jordan Simpson of Bruton, 8-2. Gloucester’s number-three player Kesley Lineberry and number five Katie Masiak lost their matches by scores of 9-7 and 8-4, respectively.
In doubles play, Riddett and Edwards teamed to beat James and Boden-Lopes, 8-1, at number one and Gloucester’s number-three team of Eversole and Rebecca Bish won, 8-2. Lineberry and Masiak lost their number-two match, 8-1.

The Lady Dukes are scheduled to host a scrimmage match with Mathews today and open Peninsula District play Tuesday at Bethel.
