The Gloucester and Mathews varsity football teams will open the 2015 season with road games, according to the VHSL master football schedule that was released last week.

Gloucester begins its season on Thursday, Aug. 27, against Kecoughtan. The rest of the Dukes’ 2015 schedule includes home games against Jamestown (Sept. 4), Woodside (Sept. 11), Denbigh (Sept. 18), Menchville (Oct. 9) and Warwick (Oct. 23); and away games at Hampton (Sept. 24), Phoebus (Oct. 1), Heritage (Oct. 16) and Bethel (Oct. 29). All games start at 7 p.m.

Mathews, meanwhile, has a bit farther to go for its season opener. The Devils will cross the Chesapeake Bay to the Eastern Shore for a Friday, Aug. 28 contest against Northampton. MHS will host Middlesex (Sept. 3), Lancaster (Sept. 11), Rappahannock (Oct. 2), King and Queen (Oct. 9), West Point (Oct. 23) and Charles City (Oct. 30), and play away games against Northumberland (Sept. 18), King William (Oct. 16) and Middlesex (Nov. 6).
