GHS men’s, women’s four crews win at Mathews regatta

After the season’s first regattas were cancelled because of high winds and cold temperatures, Gloucester High School rowers finally got some races in on Saturday at Williams Wharf in Mathews.

On the women’s side, the GHS varsity eight was fourth in the first race of the day. The novice eight of Alivia Shaw, Emily Frasier, Jillian Simpson, Scarlett Elmore, Destiny Mason, Lindsey Rudisill, Kaley Price and Angel Minter, with coxswain Isaac Hankins, was third with a time of 4:37.

The varsity four of Casey Martin, Bailey Hamilton, Mackenzie Marbain and Ashleigh Dough, with coxswain Autumn Rose, won its race in 5:15. Martin also won the single in 3:55. The second four placed fifth.

The GHS first quad of Martin, Hamilton, Marbain and Dough was second in its race and the women’s second quad was sixth. Simpson, Frasier, Price and Shaw, with coxswain Jayden Jones, placed third in 3:57. Martin and Hamilton were second in their double in 3:38 and Marbain and Dough were also se...
