GHS junior eight crew takes third at championships

The women’s junior eight had its best performance of the season for the Gloucester High School crew during the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championships Saturday in Occoquan.

Rowers Mackenzie Marbain, Kaitlyn Thompson, Tialynn Ilog, Madison Hogge, Maddie Lee, Bailey Hamilton, Kara Smith, and Madi Hutson, along with coxswain Chase Holland, won their heat and finished strong in the final for third place and bronze medals.

The GHS senior quad of Emily Freudenberg, Kassidy Brown, Hannah Cagle and Mikaela Extine was third in their heat and went on to finish sixth in the final.

On the men’s side, the second four of John Poole, Roy Adams, John Lingenfelser, Bryan Stewart and coxswain Chris Garrett was third in their heat and placed fifth in the final. The GHS junior and senior fours did not advance past their heats but the senior four placed third in their petite final.
