GHS indoor track athletes qualify for district meet

Gloucester High School indoor track athletes added to their list of Peninsula District Meet qualifiers and personal records during the second meet of the season on Jan. 10 at the Boo Williams Sports Complex in Hampton.

Despite sitting out many team members and putting some in new events, the Dukes placed fourth overall with 63 points and the Lady Dukes were eighth with 20 points.

For the boys, Torie Thomas, Troy Thomas and Robert Freiermuth took first, second and third places, respectively, in the pole vault. Torie Thomas cleared 10 feet to win the event. Also in field events, Micah Van Ness was seventh in the shot put.
On the track, Da’Ronta Carter was third in the1000-meter race, and Tyler Price and Zach Whitson were second and fourth, respectively, in the 3200. Price dropped 30 seconds from his previous race, marking one of the most significant team member improvements.
