GHS hosts high school band competition Oct. 8

The Gloucester High School Marching Dukes, under the direction of Sam Venable, will host the third annual “Bands Along the Bay” marching band competition on Saturday, Oct. 8.

Gloucester will welcome 15 high school marching bands to perform at Dukes Stadium, competing for various awards, with a special exhibition performance by the Old Dominion University Monarch Marching Band.

Performances begin at 1 p.m. and continue until the ODU performance at 8. Awards will be presented at 8:30 p.m. “Bands Along the Bay” is a fundraiser for Gloucester’s marching band program.

The program begins with the GHS band at 1 p.m. After a judges’ break, performances continue at 2 with Bethel, followed by Mathews (2:15), West Point (2:30), Western Branch (2:45), a second judges’ break, Deep Run (3:30), Kecoughtan (3:45), Jamestown (4), Bruton (4:15), a dinner break, Lafayette (6), Warhill (6:15), Tabb (6:30), Tallwood (6:45), Freeman (7), a third judges’ break, Godwin (7:30) and Woodside (7:45).
