GHS harriers win meet at Riverview Park

This week, the Gloucester High School cross country team competed in a pair of meets. 

On Wednesday, Sept. 19, the GHS boys and girls won their respective meets at Riverview Park in Newport News.

The GHS boys finished with 25 points, blowing the other teams out of the water. Senior Joshua Shackelford won the race overall with a time of 17:13, with the rest of the top runners following close behind.

Gloucester girls led all teams with 27 points, securing their win over Menchville High School by one point. Their first runner, Katie Saunders, placed second with a time of 21:48. On Saturday, the Dukes cross country traveled to Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville for the RVA Relays. This was a new meet for the runners. 

This race consisted of each runner on a team of five running 2,500 meters instead of the traditional individual 5K they are used to running.
