GHS harriers place fourth, sixth; Baker advances

The Gloucester High School boys’ and girls’ cross country teams placed fourth and sixth, respectively, at the VHSL Class 5 Region A Cross Country Championship last Saturday at Bells Mill Park in Chesapeake.

Tanner Baker, who came in fourth place overall and ran a 17:25 at the meet, is the only GHS runner to qualify for the VHSL State Championships, which will take place Friday at the Oatlands Historic House and Gardens in Leesburg.After Baker, Alec Daniel came in next for the Gloucester boys’ team with a time of 17:39. Conner O’Beirne ran an 18:06, followed by Joel Junker (19:29), Owen Hogge (20:17), Tyler Hicks (20:28) and Carter Hill (20:47). The GHS boys finished the race with a team score of 108.
