GHS golfers win conference tournament

Gloucester High School golfers finished well ahead of the field to win the Conference 10 Tournament at the Hamptons Golf Course on Tuesday.

The Dukes, with a team score of 613, and second place Menchville, with 687, will both advance to the 5A South Tournament next week. Nansemond River was third with a 689, followed by Warwick with 745, Bethel with 756 and Kecoughtan with 756.

Coming off winning the Kingsmill Junior Club Championship on Sunday, GHS junior Hunter Martin was the tournament medalist with the top tourney rounds of 68 on Monday and 71 on Tuesday for a 139.

Martin’s teammates, Cameron Baker and Nathan Gross, tied for second with each shooting 80 and 73 for a score of 153. Trent Green and Jeremy Carr tied for fourth for Gloucester and sixth overall, each with 169 strokes. Grady Baker was sixth for the Dukes with a 173.
