GHS golfers sweep schedule; Calloway named Coach of Year

Gloucester High School golfers completed their sweep of the regular season schedule Tuesday and are headed to the Conference 10 Tournament today and Friday at The Hamptons. 

The Dukes were declared the Peninsula District champions and their coach, Toby Calloway, was named the PD Coach of the Year. This is Calloway’s third season with the Dukes.

Although under the new Virginia High School League alignment there are no more athletic districts, Peninsula schools have continued the tradition of referring to the lineup of Hampton, Newport News and Gloucester high schools as the Peninsula District. 

Gloucester tallied 339 strokes in the seventh and final match of the regular season at The Hamptons on Tuesday. Menchville trailed with 342 and Warwick was third with 361. Those teams also finished first, second and third overall, with the Dukes closing the schedule 70 strokes ahead of the Monarchs.
